La Rochefoucauld, Amboise Polycarpe, viscount de, duke de Doudeauville
(1765-1841)
   political figure
   Born in Paris, Amboise Polycarpe de la Rochefoucauld, duke de Doudeauville, emigrated at the time of the revolution of 1789. He returned to France during the Consulate but, as a royalist, constantly refused to serve under napoléon i and remained in retirement until the restoration. A member of the Chamber of Peers, where he generally voted with the Right, he became minister of the king's household in 1824. At this time he encouraged charles x to purchase the estate at Grignon for creating an agricultural school there.
